Chapter 2 Mindy Sink
In Mindy Sink's passage she informs everyone about the deaths of teens in colleges because of the irresponsibility of alcohol abuse. She uses examples of deaths related to alcohol in the University of Colorado and Colorado State University. She mentions students from Colorado that died from alcohol poisoning after a night of binge drinking. Sink also mentions that the binge drinking problem isn't only in Colorado but across the United States.
In the passages she interviewed Russell Harverson, who owned the liquor store. He said, "These kids are away from home for the first time and are not taught to drink responsibly." What Mr. Harverson said is true, because I have first and witnessed new college kids get really drunk and get alcohol poisoning and throw up. Kids have a sense of freedom and they go overboard which leads to a irresponsible consumption of alcohol.

Dan, I like best how you emphasize the role parents should play in teaching college students to be responsible drinkers. Perhaps I am generalizing too much from the quote here, but it seems to me students might not have this sense of freedom with parental emphasis on their limitations.
ReplyDeleteYou do a good job at representing how Sink says alcohol abuse is a big problem. You could emphasize what kind of response (individual or community) is needed to get at the argument more completely.
